Edmund Neugebauer
Edmund is an Emeritus professor and Seniorprofessor for Health Services Research since march 2015. In September 2016, he was elected as Dean of the Brandenburg Medical School (MHB) and became President of the MHB from 1/2019 until 8/2021. Until 2/2015 he was Director Institute for Research in Operative Medicine & Chair for Surgical Research at Witten/Herdecke University. Here he served also as Dean for Research at the university’s Faculty of Health until march 2014. He has been the president of the German Network for Health Services Research (DNVF). His previous appointments have included being Head of the University of Cologne’s Biochemical and Experimental Department (1989-2005) and Vice-Chair of the Institute of Theoretical Surgery at the University of Marburg (1982-1988). He studied Chemistry/Biochemistry and Medicine at the universities Aachen & Marburg.
His areas of expertise are wide-ranging, including experimental and clinical studies of multiple injury/neurotrauma; Sepsis, acute pain, and chronification; outcomes research (pain, quality of life, patient satisfaction); evidence-based medicine with meta-analyses and systematic reviews; registries; and surgical clinical trials. He has more than 1000 scientific publications including over 600 original articles and is the Editor of 14 scientific books. His many distinctions include awards and prizes from the German Association of Surgery, the German Surgical Society, the German Society of Traumatology, and the Society of complex acute illness ( SCAI). He has also been appointed as Prof honoris causa at the Southern Medical School in Ghuangzhou, China and Dr.h.c. at the University of Malaga/Spain.
