Thomas Heymann

Tom has been part of Sepsis Alliance since 2007, serving as President and CEO since 2013. He has led Sepsis Alliance, the US first and leading sepsis patient advocacy organization, to consecutive years of growth. Under Tom’s leadership, Sepsis Alliance’s main website has grown to serve over 2 million patients, caregivers, loved ones, and medical professionals each year which has helped sepsis awareness grow from 19% to 65% in the U.S. Tom also led the organization’s efforts to launch Sepsis Alliance Clinical Community and Sepsis Alliance Institute, which cumulatively have trained more than 40,000 health professionals on sepsis and related topics. He also directed the launch of Sepsis Alliance Voices, a platform for national and state advocacy in response to the need for sepsis action at the state and national levels.

Additionally, Sepsis Innovation Collaborative launched in 2022 to provide innovation and networking opportunities in the sepsis realm, under Tom’s leadership. The organization's focus is on raising sepsis awareness; educating and training medical professionals; creating a more equal, diverse, and inclusive healthcare landscape; educating the masses on antimicrobial stewardship; and leading innovation for a more sepsis-safe world.
